The main idea of Junior Seminar is to build a project that will look good on college applications, and can also feed into your senior project. So, for my junior project I am creating a religion. Though the project is far from over, I'm almost halfway through. The constitution states that states and counties cannot infringe on religious affiliation. With that in mind, the idea was to build a religion revolving around peoples right to bodily autonomy. I feel this project addresses Self-Directional skills because you really need to keep yourself in line and manage your class time well so you have a good end of the semester project. We are required to self monitor our project and goal set at the beginning of the year. I think I am most proud of my ability to file the paperwork. Typically that is a more adult thing to do, however I have been able to file paperwork, including receiving my Employee Identification Certification and starting to file a 401(c)(3) non profit document. I developed on my 21st century skills because though we had to fill out weekly progress reports, we need to be able to address what we need to get done and do it, especially with an approaching deadline. I think the most difficult part was not having a lot of support. Though, of course, I received support from Ms. Cassie, there aren't a ton of people who are knowledgeable in this task. And those who were didn't get back to me. Though there was always someone available to help, I wasn't able to get help from anybody experienced in this particular situation. I think I could improve my work by having a more thought-out plan of action. I think if I had structured my goals and timeline out better, then I would've produced more work in a shorter amount of time. However, now I believe I can improve my work on website design. I'm not happy with the outcome of the website, so I believe I may have to recreate it on a different platform. This relates to what I've learned during my summer at UCLA's Mock Trial program. They taught the legal hierarchy, which in turn helped make sure my idea was legal and sound. (Basically the Constitution trumps statutes- legislature within states and counties). I can apply this knowledge to my senior project. For my senior project, with the help of a registered attorney, I was to file lawsuits against states that infringed on those in my religions right to religious beliefs (AKA bodily autonomy). Hopefully I will have my website and the basics of my current project done by the end of the semester, and the religion secured by the end of the school year.
