The main idea of the internship presentation was to showcase our growth, learning, and new capabilities we received from our mandatory internship the summer prior. My internship was at Camp IMUA, an overnight camp meant for disabled and autistic kids. I was a camp counselor and worked 150 volunteer hours I think this project best fits the 21st century skill global awareness. As I demonstrated an understanding of the thinking, motivations, and actions of different types of individuals and children with autism. I was able to successfully navigate and respond to that community beyond their own neighborhoods. I think I am most proud that I made it through the week at Camp IMUA. Many counselors felt used and as if they didn't receive enough technical training for the level at which the kids were at. Camp IMUA is even getting sued currently. I developed my 21st century skill by being involved in all of the kids lives during the week, as well as learn about each of them, understand what each kid needs, and get to know their individual personalities. I was able to learn more about the overall autistic community and understand more about certain specific problems. I think the most difficult problem was having no support at all throughout the experience. The head of camp IMUA just trusted a handfull of 16-17 year olds with many kids with developmental disorders. The nurses lost my child, Simone's, medication and we were worried she'd have serious issues. I wish I would’ve tried harder to get my buddy to have fun. She was really independent and got along with a lot of the counselors, but I wish I encouraged her to make friends with kids her age. It would’ve also been good if I encouraged her to do more activities. This relates to the work I did as a child babysitting. I used to watch kids, and I think that previous experience with children helped enhance my experience at Camp IMUA. I have applied the knowledge I have gotten from Camp IMUA. Going to Camp IMUA made me realize I don't' want kids, and especially not right now. After Camp IMUA I got the implant to prevent having any kids ever.
