This assignment was designed to have students identify the matter type of oobleck. For this, we each split into groups of 4-5 and in a medium sized bowl, mix together cornstarch, water, and food coloring to get oobleck. Our task was to follow these directions, then write up a lab report while trying to identify the matter type. I believe this project identifies with interpersonal skills because we demonstrated respect and positive interpersonal skills throughout our chem labs, as well as successfully working cooperatively as a member of a team while making the oobleck and writing the lab report. I'm most proud of our oobleck, while some groups concoction was either too firm or too liquid-y, ours was the perfect consistency (Ms. S said so too!). I'm also proud of our group working so well together! I learned and developed upon my 21st century skills by contributing to the group as well as practicing (and achieving) being more in the loop of group "projects" with a few people I'm not too familiar with (AKA achieving better interpersonal skills). The most difficult part was definitely the lab report. It was a relatively easy lab and lab report, however out of EVERYTHING this was the hardest. Along with figuring ou what kind of matter state oobleck was because Ms. S didn't tell us the 4th (kind of) state which matter could be at, which was this state of matter. If i were to do this assignment again I'd probably get a bowl I'd be willing to throw away to put the oobleck in. I have to say- it was a pain in the --- to clean the bowl. I'd probably also be more detailed on the conclusion part of the report. This assignment relates to what I've watched on youtube like a year ago explaining why oobleck is the way it is and how to make it. I can apply the knowledge I gained to future learning especially in the interpersonal skills department. If you're ever in a group project where you don't really know anyone its always good to at least pretend to feel comfortable for you can get more done.
